Plains Pipe with Catlinite Stem

The plains pipe represents the most common style of ceremonial pipe used- from the western Ohio Valley to the Rockies, and from the Arkansas River to the pains of southern Canada. Pipe stems throughout the historic era have shown at least as great a variation as the bowls- this Catlinite (pipestone) stem is a special variation. Size and shape varies. The photo is a representative sample as each pipe is hand carved. Approximate size: Stem & Bowl together: 15" (38 cm) long
