Hopi Crow Mother Kachina, carved by Myron Beeson from Second Mesa.
The Crow Mother also known as Angwusnosamtaka, or Angwushahai-is the mother of all Kachinas. She guides and protects all, watches over children as they play, and sends prayers by carrying corn in her basket. She appears during the Powamu or Bean Dance, one of the rituals aimed at guaranteeing abundant crops for the next season by promoting germination and fertility. The Crow Mother reflects the strong belief of the Hopi in the regenerative power of nature.
